The 2024 U.S. presidential elections were historical and politically charged as Donald Trump made a successful return to the presidency triumphing over Kamala Harris the sitting vice president. This is a unique case of a political comeback for Trump making him only the other U.S. president in the history of the line to hold office for two non-consecutive terms other than Grover Cleveland. The election pointed out even more the deep rooted ideological divides within the country where record numbers of people turned out to vote due to the belief by both parties in what was at stake.

The main issues that distinguished the election included incaution in the economy, crime levels, migration, and the politics with regard to energy. Thus, the emphasis of his campaign was on “how great a nation America once was”, sharpening the border control measures, draining the swamps of the climate agenda and slashing funds allocated by the state. On the other hand, Harris went all out in the campaigns on the issues of abortion, health care, and climate change. The results pointed to the continued resonance of Trump’s brand of politics even among the working and rural populations who had voted for him. At the same time, urban centers and ethnic minority groups remained bastions of support for Harris.

Trump’s 2024 presidential race reflects changing expectations of the American electorate. His campaign national economic development through the enhancement of local energy resources and order appealed to the majority of the voters who had experienced economic feminism. On the other hand, there are voting patterns that exhibit a polarisation between the people that hold different political views, which indicates the continuing difficulty of reconciling urban and rural, young and old, and individuals that belong to different cultures. As the country prepares for Trump’s return to the white house, he has one of the most difficult challenges, to lead a country that is very divided, in fact many are asking to make more efforts searching for peace and building bipartisanship.

The elections were also concerned with the future of both of the parties. For the case of the Democrats, the defeat of Harris has led to some soul-searching on how to engage some critical voter blocs especially in the Midwest and swing states and independent voters. On the other hand, he does successfully take control over the Republican Party which, on the other hand, also raises the question of whether the unifying or the divisive leadership of Trump will be conducive to the internal cohesiveness of the Republican Party.
